Surface engineering can be a powerful technique for dealing with proteins that yield no crystals or poorly diffracting crystals. The JBScreen Methylation Kit provides a simple method for the selective methylation of lysine residues. The method does not require laborious cloning/expression/purification. Instead, the protons of the amino groups of all lysines are chemically replaced with methyl groups. A surface-engineered protein, ready for crystallization, is produced within 24 hours.
