The Oryx Range of Protein Crystallization Robots by Douglas

The Oryx8, Oryx4 and OryxNano robots by Douglas Instruments are very versatile systems for automatic protein crystallization. All three robots are particularly good at microseeding experiments and waste very little protein (about 0.5 µL per experiment). Douglas Instruments recently added scripts for making detailed phase diagrams for your target proteins – these are very helpful for advanced data-collection techniques such as serial data collection, microED and neutron diffraction.

We are also working in tandem with Douglas Instruments to offer an online demonstration catered to your applications. Feel free to reach out to request more information using the Ask Question/Request Quote tab below.

Oryx8 Protein Crystallization Robot | M-DG-Oryx8

The Oryx8 is the flagship Douglas Instruments protein crystallization robot. It can set up screening experiments with drops down to 100 + 100 nL, and up to 8 + 8 µL for optimization.  Standard screening, additive and microseeding experiments are included as well as microbatch-under-oil screening (also down to 100 + 100 nL) and hanging drop cover slide dispensing to 12, 18 and 22mm cover slides with up to 5 drops per slide.

Optimization experiments can be carried out with full pH control, including multivariate experiment designs such as the Central Composite. For microbatch optimization, drops with up to 7 ingredients including protein can be dispensed. For vapor diffusion optimization, reservoir wells can be filled with up to 6 ingredients, typically with total volumes of 25 - 500 µL.

In addition, quick-and-easy phase diagram optimization experiments can be carried out in a few minutes.
